  1. FYI so your site is better and more helpful to others.

When I try to use my iPhone 6 or older iPad the menu for the great 8 is not on step 1. When I used my regular computer I could see the full address to step 1. I decided to try puting the full address for step 2 on my iPad and I was able to find Step 2. I finally did see the grat 8 menu at the bottom of the other steps. Maybe put it smaller at the top? I think that is why so many people are asking other step questions on step 1 page. This morning Step 1 has no place to comment or the great 8 menu.
You all are so helpful to use all, may this be helpful to you.

  3. I have completed the great in 8 plan with some success. In step 3 I only needed to do part 1 and had probably up to 70% improvement, and so I completed the rebalance etc up until the end.

Now I find that I am going back to old reactions, although I have been pretty good with my non-dairy, lo-carb, high fat diet with mostly whole foods. It seems that I am reacting to more things. As I had been diagnosed a long time ago as having “leaky gut”, i thought it might be a good step to try the liquid semi-elemental diet for up to 3 months – to give my gut the ultimate opportunity to heal.

Should I go through all the level 3 protocols again, or is it ok to go straight to the elemental diet – and follow it up with steps 4 to 8 afterwards?

    1. Hi David,

Check out page 97 of the book in the green box that says “How To Know If Your Carb Intake Is Too Low” – that could be something to try playing around with.

Also, did you wean off of all the supplements? Maybe there were some in there that would be helpful to be on longer (e.g. the probiotics and/or enzymes).

Lastly, just to make sure I understand, are you saying you want to do the SED for 3 months straight? Or the elemental diet in conjunction with food?

      1. Thanks for the reply.,I did wean off the supplements and I think the Enzymes and probiotics are definitely helpful, however I am finding that I am reacting to bread more than I used too before trying the great in 8…

I was thinking about going 3 months straight – to give my gut the best chance to heal. For balance I would only 1 meal a week (to keep date night) but choose food carefully… The book suggests people who have even been on the SED for years who found it beneficial.

  5. I completed the Great in 8 plan back in March of 2019 and slowly came off all of the supplements and have been completely off all of the supplements since about April-May with great results.

Just last Friday 11/1/19 I started to get some stool that was very consistent to how it was when my problem first arose (uh-oh). I’m beginning to think I need to get back on some modified version of the protocol to see if I can get over this hurdle.

A question I have, how dose the new product Intestinal Repair Formula play into the Great in 8 protocol? Since the product came out after the book I am not sure how it would be used. Thanks,

    1. Hi Manuel,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been regressing a bit. Now would be a great time to try out the Intestinal Support Formula – Dr Ruscio recommends using it after you’ve completed the protocol (if you feel you need it) so you avoid doing too much at once. I hope it helps!

  7. When using the Intestinal Repair Formula should I also continue with probiotics
(lacto-bifido, saccharomyces, and soil-based), digestive enzymes, and adrenal support? Or should I wean off of those when adding IRF?

    Thanks!

    1. If you’re still in the stage in your treatment plan where you’re using probiotics, it’s fine to take them all at the same time as ISF.
