In Case You Missed It

On Monday, we discussed what is the best test for SIFO.

On Wednesday’s podcast release, we talked with Dr. Satish Rao and discussed Small Intestinal Fungal Overgrowth.

Dr. Ruscio’s Weekly Tip

In this week’s tip, we discussed everything you need to know about SIFO.

Latest Research

A recent study showed children with autism do not have any major gut differences compared to that of healthy controls.

A low FODMAP diet improved digestive symptoms in those with IBD.

Those with thyroid autoimmunity have a higher risk of celiac disease. Dr. R’s note: Perhaps this also applies for those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and this is why so many with thyroid autoimmunity do better gluten-free.

A review on probiotics as a treatment of obesity. Dr. R’s note: Still nothing promising shown, but this doesn’t mean probiotics shouldn’t be used.

Prebiotics feed bacteria and bacteria secrete short chain fatty acids. Obese subjects have been shown to have high levels of short chain fatty acids. This study showed prebiotics can actually decrease short chain fatty acid levels in obese subjects. How much benefit this translates to is still unclear, however.
