Bile acid diarrhea

  • 25% to 50% of patients with functional diarrhea or diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) also have evidence of BAD.
  • There are several methods of diagnosing BAD, such as (75)selenium homotaurocholic acid test retention, serum C4, FGF-19, and fecal BA measurement; presently, therapeutic trials with BA sequestrants are most commonly used for diagnosis.

Enrichment of microbiota groups that are often considered “healthy” (F. Prausnitzii) predicted response to a low-FODMAP diet.

Systematic review discussing probiotics in inflammatory bowel disease. The results look promising.

Pain in the gut tied with psychiatric problems. Again no surprise for those who work with the gut, but nice to see this being published.
