Latest Research
Women with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis have a high number of symptoms which are not all caused by hypothyroidism, this study shows.
Researchers measured quality of life in 368 patients with thyroid disorders using two questionnaires. Mood disturbances were widely present in patients and significantly associated with a poor quality of life. Perceived health status is also thought to affect outcomes.
An association between hypothyroidism and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) was demonstrated in this study. Intestinal motor dysfunction from hypothyroidism may predispose patients to overgrowths. However, thyroid hormone levels weren’t significantly affected by rifaximin treatment removing the SIBO.
