Researchers measured quality of life in 368 patients with thyroid disorders using two questionnaires. Perceived health status is also thought to affect outcomes.

An association between hypothyroidism and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) Trusted SourcePubMedGo to source was demonstrated in this study. Intestinal motor dysfunction from hypothyroidism may predispose patients to overgrowths. However, thyroid hormone levels weren’t significantly affected by rifaximin treatment removing the SIBO.
